Nielsen says country not ready for DTV – 6.5 million homes will lose TV

In just two weeks, broadcasters are mandated to switch signals to DTV. No problem, right?

However, the Times reports today:

Nielsen Company estimates more than 6.5 million U.S. households that rely on over-the-air broadcast signals, or 5.7 percent of the population, are not prepared for the transition and could see their TV sets go dark next month.

Today, House Republicans, in their deep concern for American families, blocked a bill that would push back the mandated date to July, thus giving these families the time to prepare for the changeover.

I guess people living in rural areas or who don’t have access to cable or satellite just don’t count.
